Federal Register Notices

A museum or Federal agency must submit a Federal Register notice prior to disposition or repatriation of human remains or cultural items. This table shows the museum or Federal agency submitting the notice, the publication date of the notice, a link to the published notice, and the total number of human remains or cultural items identified in the notice.

This table can be filtered to show notices of inventory completion (NIC) for human remains and associated funerary objects; notices of intended repatriation (NIR) for unassociated funerary objects, sacred objects, objects of cultural patrimony, and both an object of cultural patrimony and sacred objects; notices of intended disposition (NID) from Federal lands*; and notices of transfer or reinterment (NOT) for human remains and associated funerary objects. This table can be filtered to show only a specific museum or Federal agency. The search function applies to all available fields in the table. The buttons provide different formats for downloading the data. The table can be sorted by any field by clicking on the header.

*Note that prior to January 12, 2024, notices of intended disposition were published in newspapers and can be found in a separate table.
